NEW HAND CARVED WOODEN NUN PATRON SAINT SCHOLASTICA OF NURSIA STATUE SCULPTURE Polychrome finish, painted and 24 carat gold plated by hand. Reflecting personally on the saint: Saint Scholastica of Nursia is revered as a Christian saint and is known primarily for her strong spiritual connection with her twin brother, Saint Benedict of Nursia, the founder of Western monasticism. She was born around the year 480 AD in Nursia, Italy. Although less is known about her life compared to her famous brother, Scholastica is traditionally considered to have been the abbess of a convent and led a community of nuns dedicated to God under the Benedictine rule. The most famous account of her life comes from the writings of Saint Gregory the Great in his work "Dialogues," where he describes a poignant final meeting between Scholastica and Benedict. According to the story, Scholastica and Benedict met once a year at a house near Benedict’s monastery to discuss spiritual matters. During their last meeting, Scholastica, sensing her impending death, asked her brother to stay with her until the next day so that they could continue their discussions. When Benedict refused, due to his own monastic rule that did not allow him to spend a night away from his monastery, Scholastica prayed fervently, and a severe thunderstorm erupted, preventing Benedict from leaving. Benedict recognized his sister's deep spiritual insight and her ability to call upon God's power, remarking, "God has heard your prayer, my sister. And now go away if you can, leave me and return to your convent." They spent the night in deep spiritual conversation. Scholastica died three days later, and Benedict saw her soul ascending to heaven in the form of a dove. Saint Scholastica is often invoked for her dedication to prayer and her ability to touch God's heart, signifying the power of spiritual bonds and the efficacy of prayer. Her feast day is celebrated on February 10th. She is venerated as the patron saint of nuns, convulsive children, schools, tests, books, reading, and rain, reflecting the miraculous storm she summoned with her prayers. Her legacy highlights the spiritual kinship and respect between her and her brother, Benedict, and her example has inspired many religious followers seeking a deep and committed spiritual life.
